'People will be happy with amended budget'

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said people will be happy with the amended budget scheduled to be passed in the parliament on June 29 and BNP's criticism over the budget will end.

The minister came up with the comment while replying to the questions of journalists after the inspection of traffic situation at Signboard area of Narayanganj on Thursday noon.

Quader said, "It is good for people that a debate over the proposed budget is underway across the country. Debate is the view of democracy. There should be debate in the democracy."

While talking about traffic congestion, the minister said necessary steps have been taken to keep the suffering of Eid holidaymakers at a tolerable stage.

It will not be tolerated if any allegation regarding the negligence to duty and anomaly is brought against any roads and highways department official, he warned.

More than 300 ansar members have been engaged in the capital and its adjoining districts to keep the highways free of traffic congestion, Quader mentioned.
