Staff Correspondent: The condition of Afsana Khanom, wife of Captain Abid Sultan, pilot of the ill-fated US-Bangla Airlines flight which crashed in Kathmandu, Nepal last week, is stated to be critical, according to her family members and hospital sources.

Doctors at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar conducted the surgery on Afsana Khanom immediately after she suffered a brain stroke for second time on Monday morning. Now she has been kept on life support at the hospital.

Quoting doctors, captain Wahedunnabi, family friend of Abid Sultan and former colleague of US-Bangla Airlines, said Afsana Khanom went into coma.

Md Shihab, an information officer of the Neurosciences hospital, said “The condition of Afsana is critical. She suffered another stroke this morning. She is now on life support.”

Earlier on Sunday morning (March 18), Afsana suffered a stroke at her Uttara residence in Dhaka. Her family members took her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon.

At least 51 people were killed as flight BS211 of US-Bangla Airlines burst into flames at the Tribhuban International Airport in Kathmandu of Nepal on March 12.

Captain Abid Sultan was rescued in a critical condition. He breathed his last at Norvic Hospital International Hospital in Kathmandu on March 13 while undergoing treatment.
