Poet, journalist Sajjad Kadir dies at 70

Staff Correspondent: Poet and journalist Sajjad Kadir died at a hospital in the capital on Thursday (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi Rajiun). He was 70.

Kadir, a member of National Press Club, breathed his last at Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital at about 2:00pm as he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Born on April 14, 1947 at Mirer Betka of Tangail, he completed his masters at Dhaka University’s Bangla Department in 1970.

He started his career as a lecturer by joining the Bangla Department of Karatia Saadat College in 1972, but quit the teaching within four years.

Kadir then joined weekly Bichitra as a sub-editor on July 14, 1976 and emerged as a journalist and poet subsequently.

He worked for different newspapers in his long journalistic career. He worked with Radio Beijing, Dainik Sangbad and Dainik Dinkal.

Kadir authored more than 80 books including poetry, stories, novel, plays, essays, translation, juvenile literature and compilations.
