Police allowed to test Shafat-Sadman's mobiles

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has allowed police to conduct a forensic test on mobile phones of Ahmed Shafat and Shadman Sakif, the main accused of Banani rape case.

Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Md Delwar Hossain passed the order after hearing on Sunday.

Earlier, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Inspector Ismot Ara Ame filed an application seeking permission to carry out the forensic test on two mobile phones and a power bank.

Police arrested Shafat and Shadman from a house in Sylhet on May 11 six days after the rape case was filed with Banani Police Station against the duo and three others -- Nayem Ashraf alias Halim, Rahmat Ali and Billal. All of the accused are now in police custody.

According to the case statement, Shafat and Nayem were accused of raping two university girls at The Raintree hotel in the capital while Shafat's driver Billal, bodyguard Rahmat and Shadman were accused of assisting Shafat and Nayem.

On May 18, Shafat and Shadman gave confessional statement before two magistrates in Dhaka.
