‘Police has to gain confidence of people’

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the police to gain the trust and confidence of people as this is very important for them.

The Prime Minister was addressing the passing-out parade of the 35th BCS batch of assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah under Charghat upazila of Rajshahi on Wednesday.

"Police have to gain people's confidence and trust so that they can think that police will help them; police are with them and they're the resort of trust for people. You must build that trust," she said.

Sheikh Hasina directed the police personnel to show polite and sophisticated attitude towards women and children.  "You must play the role of leaders to eliminate crimes from society by formulating people-friendly police through involving them," she said.

The Prime Minister also asked the police force to fulfill the expectation of people. "For that skilled, a professional and pro-people police service, and we’re firmly determined to formulating that," she said.

Mentioning that the government has gained success in uprooting terrorism from the country, Hasina said drug is pushing society towards the path of destruction like a disease.

The PM said the present police force is the force of independent Bangladesh and it is their topmost priority to gain people's trust and confidence.

A special helicopter of Bangladesh Air Force, carrying the prime minister, landed at Bangladesh Police Academy ground in Sardah under Charghat upazila of Rajshahi at 11:20am.

According to her tour schedule, the premier inspected the  parade of ASPs and took salute of Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA).

Also, she rewarded some selected ASPs for their specialization in various fields of training.
