'Power price to go up by 5pc'

Secretariat Correspondent: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that power price would be raised by 30-35 paisa per unit which is 5 percent of current rate.

The minister made the opinion while addressing newsmen after a meeting at secretariat on Wednesday.

He said that if the government allows Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to import fuel directly in tarrif price then the price of power may not increase.

In reply to a question, he said that the whole issue is depending on Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

Nasrul Hamid also said the government has fixed a target to provide electricity to all by next year.
