Power tariff hike: Leftists call shutdown on Nov 30

Staff Correspondent: Left-leaning parties have called a half-day hartal for November 30 protesting the price hike of power.

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BSD) and Gonotantrik Bam Morcha jointly announced the hartal through a press release on Thursday.

The decision of enforcing the hartal came hours after the announcement of power price hike by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission.

Earlier, the authority said that an average increase of electricity price by 5.3 percent or Tk 0.35 per unit will be effective from December 1.
