President rejects mercy plea of Mufti Hannan

Staff Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the president has rejected Mufti Hannan’s clemency plea.
The Minister made the disclosure while addressing a programme at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Adarsha Mohila College in capital's Agargaon on Saturday afternoon.
He said that the jail authorities will now take all measure to execute them following the jail code as the president has rejected mercy petitions of Harkat- ul-Jihad-al-Islami chief Mufti Abdul Hannan and others.
In reply to another question, he said that the law enforcers are kept alert ahead of Pahela Baishakh. There is no scope to face untoward situation.
On March 27, the three condemned convicts Mufti Hannan, Sharif Shahedul Alam Bipul and Delwar Hossain Ripon preferred presidential mercy and their petitions were later sent to the president.
Earlier on March 19, the Appellate Division rejected the petitions of Mufti Hannan and the two seeking review of their death sentences for murdering three persons and leaving former UK high commissioner Anwar Choudhury by throwing bombs in 2004.
