Prithvi shaw falls after historic ton

Sports Desk: Riding on a historic ton from opener Prithvi Shaw, India reached 232 runs for the loss of three wickets against the Windies at tea on Day 1 of the first Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Thursday.

Slamming his maiden century off just 99 deliveries, Shaw became the youngest Indian to score a century on debut.

After a terrific batting display in the morning, Shaw continued his dominance with the bat in the second session, taking the Windies bowling attack to the cleaners.

After scoring at a brisk pace in the morning session, the Indian batsmen continued the run flow, scoring 99 runs in the post-lunch session. Cheteshwar Pujara and Prithvi Shaw stitched a mammoth 206-run partnership for the second wicket before Pujara (86) played a loose shot to give Sherman Lewis his maiden Test wicket.

Towards the end of the session, Shaw (134) too was dismissed, lobbing a simple return catch to Devendra Bishoo. The Windies bowlers managed to pick up two wickets in the second session.

Skipper Virat Kohli (4*) and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane (0*) were at the crease when umpires called for the tea break.
