Protesters allegedly attacked at Jigatala

Staff Correspondent: Several protesting students have been injured in an alleged attack at the capital’s Jigatala.

Many of the injured were taken to local hospitals while some were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Witness sources said students of Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and other agitating students gathered at Jigatala and brought out a procession towards Rifles Square demanding safe roads around 1:00pm. Police attacked on the protesters and fired teargas shells to disperse them.

Later, a huge number of police took position at Jigatala bus stand area to take the situation under control.

On the contrary, protesters took positions at different points at Science Lab area, causing transport movement halt in the area.

According to protesting students, the students who sustained injuries in the attack are taking treatment at different hospitals.

Risingbd DMCH Correspondent reports that four students-- Nusrat Jahan, 19, Susmita, 23, Simonti, 23, and Tusher, 23—who sustained injuries in teargas have been rushed to DMCH for treatment.

Besides, Anamul of IUB, Rakin of a private university and BUET student Tamim have been taking treatment in DMCH.
