Quader blinks his eyes but not out of danger yet: Doctors

Senior Correspondent: The health condition of ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader who is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is better than before but he is not out of danger yet, BSMMU’s Vice Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua said.

The BSMMU’s vice chancellor made the disclosure while addressing a press briefing on Sunday evening.

When asked about the physical condition of Obaidul Quader, Kanak Kanti Barua said, “We’re cent percent optimistic about the recovery of Obaidul Quader but he’s not out of danger. His condition is better than before. He is blinking his eyes, moving his legs and trying to talk to others.”

“He has responded to the calls of the President and the Prime Minister when they visited him at the hospital in the afternoon,” he said.

“Obaidul Quader is not in a situation to take abroad right now as his physical condition is not stable. If there are necessary technology and expert doctors at the air ambulance, we may allow them to take the AL senior leader abroad,” said Prof Syed Ali Ahsan, chairman of the cardiology department of the BSMMU.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is dealing with the issue of taking Quader abroad, he added.

Earlier in the afternoon, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Road Transport and Bridges Minister and ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader being treated at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.

Obaidul Quader was admitted to the BSMMU hospital as he had breathing problem after Fazr prayers.

He has been diagnosed with three blockages in his coronary artery, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua said.

The minister was first taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at 8.30 am and then shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of BSMMU, Senior Public Relations Officer Abu Naser of Roads and Highways Division said.
