Quota: Death threat, allegation of refusing GD

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Alliance alleged that police refused to take General Dairy (GD) against BCL leaders who threatened to kill two conveners of their movement.

Nurul Haque Nur, one of the joint conveners of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Alliance who also received death threat, came up with the allegation in a press conference in front of the Central Library of Dhaka University (DU) around 4:00pm on Wednesday.

He said, “Two BCL leaders – central committee vice-president Imtiaz Bulbul Bappi and Mohsin Hall unit general secretary Mehedi Hasan Sanni – along with their followers threatened to kill two conveners – Nurul Haque Nur and Mohammad Rashed Khan – of ‘Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Alliance’ which has been vocal in quota reform movement.”

“They threatened to kill us and said they can shot me down any time, but now they can’t do it until the permission comes from higher authority,” he alleged.

“I called the university proctor seeking help, but we didn’t get any response from them,” added Nurul.

“We also went to Shahbagh Police Station for lodging a complaint, but police refused to take their General Dairy (GD)," he claimed.

“Now I am feeling unsafe because they can attack me at any time” he added.

Joint convener Rashed Khan said, “We are happy with the manners of police as they refused to give us protection and we did not take it well. It’s their duty to provide security for our lives and properties.”

He also said all classes will be boycotted in all universities and colleges until the gazette notification will be published over quota reform.
