Quota for 1st, 2nd class govt jobs abolished

Secretariat Correspondent: The government has abolished quota system for class I and IIjobs (from grade 9 to grade 13).

A Cabinet meeting held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair took the decision on Wednesday.

Earlier, a committee headed by the cabinet secretary on 17 September submitted a report to the Prime Minister recommending abolition of the quota system from 9th to 13th grade of government services.

The committee recommended recruiting officers to these posts on the basis of merit.

 

In April, students of public and private universities across the country waged a strong movement demanding reforms in the quota system in public service recruitment process.

In the face of the movement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced in parliament on April 11 the abolition of all types of quotas in government jobs.
