Raid at 5 outlets of Apan Jewelers

Staff Correspondent: The customs intelligence officials conducted raids at five branches of Apan Jewelers on Sunday.

The law enforcers started the raid at Gulshan's two outlets, Uttara, Mouchak and Simanta Square in search of “dirty money”.

Tax officials of Dhaka south and North along with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) forces are jointly conducting the drive.

Customs intelligence and investigation department director general (DG) Dr Moinul Khan confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

Details will be disclosed after finishing the drive, he said.

Earlier, on Thursday night police arrested Safat Ahmed, son of Apan Jewelers owner, and Sadman Sakif from Sylhet city's Pathantula area in connection with a rape case.

One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people.

Of the accused, Safat and Nayeem were sued for raping the two female university students while Sadman Sakif, Safat's driver Billal, 26, and his unnamed bodyguard for abetting in the crime.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff along with her friend went to a residential hotel at Banani to attend the birthday party of Safat at about 9:00pm on March 28.
