Rajib's death: Bail pleas for two bus drivers rejected

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has rejected bail petitions to two bus drivers in a case filed over the severing of the right hand of Rajib Hossain, a third-year student of Government Titumir College, in a collision between two buses.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Mazharul Islam passed the order rejecting the bail petitions on Sunday.

The two accused whose bail petitions were rejected are Wahid, 35, driver of BRTC double-decker bus and Khorshed, 50, driver of a bus of Swajan Paribahan.

On April 5, the court placed the two accused on a two-day remand each and sent them to jail on completion of the remand on April 8. Since then, they have been in jail.

The right hand of Rajib Hossain, 22, a third-year student of Government Titumir College, was severed when a BRTC double-decker bus and a bus of Swajan Paribahan were trying to overtake each other in the capital's Banglamotor on April 3. The severed hand of Rajib was seen hanging from the double-decker.

Rajib died on April 17 while he was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
