Rana Plaza graft: Trial against Rana, 9 others begins

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court framed charges against Sohel Rana, owner of the Rana Plaza and nine others in a case filed against them on charge of accumulating wealth illegally.

Dhaka Division Special Judge Atowar Rahman passed the order on Sunday and set July 5 for next hearing in the case.

Besides, the court has acquitted six suspects from the trial.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain confirmed the matter to media.

The anti-graft watchdog started investigation about his wealth after the Rana Plaza collapsed on 24 April in 2013, which left 1,129 people killed and about 2,515 others injured.

According to the ACC probe report, he built two commercial buildings--Rana Plaza and Rana Tower--in Savar with ill-gotten money.
