Reinstate 140 BSMMU physicians: SC

Staff Correspondent: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the authority concern to reinstate 140 physicians of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, passed the order on Sunday.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state while Advocate Dr. Kamal Hossain, Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud, Kamrul Haque Siddiqui, A M Amin Uddin and Sharif Bhuiyan moved for the physicians.

In 2010, the High Court (HC) had ruled that the appointment process of these doctors was illegal because of some irregularities.

Later, on September 4 last year, the SC allowed the doctors to move an appeal petition against the verdict of the High Court. The hearing was concluded on May 17.
