Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has ordered the government to resume transport service throughout the country within 24 hours.
The court has also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned as to why enforcing hartal against the court’s verdict should not be declared illegal and why action should not be taken against the responsible persons.
The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order and rule on Wednesday following a writ petition moved by Advocate Manzill Murshid on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
Earlier in the day, a writ petition was filed seeking withdrawal of the countrywide transport strike within 24 hours.
The petition also sought cancellation of driving license and directions to seize the vehicles.
In Manikganj on February 22, a court awarded life for a trucker convicting him of killing eminent filmmaker Tareque Masud and media personality Mishuk Munier in a road crash.
Following this, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation went on strike across the country on Tuesday morning protesting the court verdict that sentenced a driver to death and another to life imprisonment.
