Rohingya man among two killed in 'gunfight'

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Two suspected human traffickers including a Rohingya man were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Katabunia Noukaghat area of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Ruble, son of late Rashid Ahmed and Omar Faruk, son of Mohammad Habibullah.

Police said that Rubel and Omar Faruk were wanted in human trafficking case. The brokers, who were actually members of a human trafficking gang, sent people to Malaysia illegally.

Confirming the matter, Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das said, on information, a police team conducted a drive in the area to detain the accused. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of police, the cohorts of them, opened fire aiming police. In reply, police also opened fire, leaving Rubel and Faruk bullet injured.

Later, the injured were sent to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared them dead.

Two locally made guns, 11 rounds of bullets and 18 cases of bullets were recovered from the spot.
