Rohingyas to be identified as 'forcibly evicted Myanmar citizens'

Senior Correspondent: The Bangladesh government will not give refugee status to Rohingyas people. From now their new identity will be 'forcibly evicted Myanmar citizens'.

Shah Kamal, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at the Secretariat office in the capital on Thursday noon.

He also said, 'The Rohingyas will be identified as 'forcibly evicted Myanmar citizens'. The foreign ministry has issued a letter in this regard."

"The number of Rohingyas crossing the border into Bangladesh to flee violence in Rakhine State of Myanmar since August 25 to October 4 has exceeded five lakh. All of them are Myanmar citizens. The government is working to send back them," he added.

Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and others attended the programme.
