SC rejects Nazmul Huda's appeal

Barrister Nazmul Huda

Staff Correspondent: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of former minister Barrister Nazmul Huda in a bribe case.

The appellate division bench headed by acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah passed the order on Sunday morning.

Following the order, Barrister Nazmul Huda has to surrender before lower court within next 45 days in the case, lawyer Khurshid Alam said.

Earlier on January 2, the court fixed January 7 for the hearing over Nazmul Huda's appeal.

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Barrister Nazmul Huda and his wife Sigma Huda for taking Tk 2.40 crore bribe from a person on March 21, 2007.

On August 27, 2007, a Special Judge’s Court sentenced Nazmul Huda to seven years imprisonment and fined TK 2.5 crore while his wife Sigma Huda to three years imprisonment. Later, they appealed against the verdict.

Following the appeal, the High Court acquitted them from the charge on March 20, 2011.

On December 1, 2014, the ACC appealed to the Appellate Division in the case.  And the SC scrapped the HC verdict and asked to hear the case again.
