Staff Correspondent: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Tuesday issued a warning that legal action will be taken against any trader if found involved in increasing prices of essentials ahead of the Ramadan.
The DSCC mayor made the warning while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the business leaders.
The meeting was held over keeping the prices of Ramadan essentials stable during the month at Nagar Bhaban in the city.
"The prices of sugar, pulse, gram, flour and other commodities will remain the same as it is now, but if the prices of daily essentials will rise in the retail market then action will be taken," said Sayeed Khokon.
The mayor said the business leaders have assured that they will take steps for keeping the prices of daily commodities including soybean oil stable in the market.
The business leaders promised that they would not increase the prices of daily commodities including soybean oil, he added.
Despite having adequate supply of daily essentials, a vested quarter is involved in increasing the prices of commodities during the month of Ramadan, he said adding that "Legal action will be taken against any trader if found involved in price hiking."
City group Chairman Fazlur Rahman said, "We have adequate stock of daily essentials. Prices won't be hiked. We are giving a promise."
Presided over by the DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon, City group Chairman Fazlur Rahman, S Alam Group Manager Salauddin and TK Group Managing Director Mustafa Haider were, among others, present at the meeting.
