Schedule for Gazipur, Khulna city polls Saturday

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce schedule for Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls on March 31 (Saturday).

The EC is set to hold a meeting around 11:00am on the day. The schedule will be announced immediately after end of the meeting.

EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told this to the reporters on Friday.

The voting may be held on May 10 in the cities, according to EC sources.

Five cities-- Gazipur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet-- must go through voting before the parliament election, according EC sources.

Recently, EC wrote letter to the Ministry of Local Government asking as to whether any completion in holding polls in Gazipur and Khulna.

The Ministry ruled out any complexity in the cities. So, EC determines to arrange election in the cities, according to Mokhlesur Rahman, additional secretary of EC.
