Scuffle at BSMMU

Staff Correspondent: Two groups of physicians have been locked into scuffle at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) over the appointment of 200 staff nurses.

Supporters of Pro-VC (Academic) Prof ASM Zakaria Swapan and Proctor Habibur Rahman groups locked into the scuffle at the hospital premises around 11:00am on Saturday, according to witnesses.

BSMMU employees on condition of anonymity said Proctor Habibur Rahman and Pro-VC Zakaria Swapon were holding a meeting in VC Kamrul Hassan's room around 10:00am on Saturday. At one stage, they locked into an altercation, but stopped immediately.

As a sequel to that, supporters of Pro-VC aggressively gathered in front of the proctor's room. Later, they searched him in different places in the campus, as they did not find him in the room.

Meanwhile, hearing the news, supporters of proctor also gathered in the campus and locked into scuffle. Later, the situation came under control with the intervention of senior physicians.

However, the incident did not affect the medical services, claimed Prashanta Kumar Mazumder, section officer (Public Relations) of the university.
