Security beefed up for Shab-e-Barat in capital

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stepped up securities in the capital to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion of holy Shab-e-Barat to be observed tomorrow (Thursday).

Members of law enforcement agencies will ensure patrolling alongside setting up check posts at different points. Plain clothes police will also be deployed. Securities will be strengthened where more public gathering will be reported.

A large number of members of law enforcement agencies will remain deployed at important shrines like Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Major roads will be barricaded and special checking teams will be deployed at major intersections to detect and prosecute traffic violations.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told risingbd.com: “They received no threats on the holy Shab-e-Barat as of today. The Muslim devotees offer prayers till late at night. Many of them stay outside. A section of people try to create chaos or unpleasant incidents taking this advantage. That’s why police officials have been directed to make strict security arrangements in the capital.”

The DMP has already banned fireworks in the capital on the occasion of holy Shab-e-Barat for the sake of security.

The DMP also imposed a restriction on carrying of all types of explosives, crackers as well as explosion of firecrackers in the capital on the occasion.

The DMP enforced the ban under Section 28 of the DMP Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance-1976 (Ord. No. III of 1976), aiming to maintain the sanctity of Shab-e-Barat, according to a DMP media release signed by its Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Tuesday.

The restriction will come into force from 6:00pm on May 11 (Thursday) and remain effective until 6:00am on May 12.
