Security tensions rise as Rohingyas involved in crimes

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: A number of Rohingyas are getting engaged in various types of crimes in Bangladesh. These intruders even attacked locals and law enforcers side by side their regular clash.  

There is also an allegation that the Rohingyas are involved with trading of Yaba and drugs, robbery and other crimes in Bangladesh. A report of law enforcers hinted that a vested quarter is trying to encourage the crimes creating unrest here in Bangladesh.

According the report, more than six lakh Rohingyas arrived Bangladesh from Myanmar since 25 August. These huge numbers of Rohingya people are living in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar and Teknaf. Although, the Rohingyas got humanitarian assistance but now they are getting involved with several types of crimes including murder.

According to a police report, Rohingyas injured a Sub-Inspector named Kabir Ahmed at Nayapara camp in Tekna on October 21. Earlier, the intruders attacked a local youth named Abu Siddique on October 19. Later, he was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he died under treatment on October 21.



On October 30, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained five Rohingyas with lethal weapon from Balukhali camp area. Besides, a Bangladeshi youth named Abdul Jabbar was hacked to death by a Rohingya man in Khuniyapalang of Ramu on October 27. Four deep tube-well workers were injured when Rohingyas attacked them in Balukhali camp. In addition, police detained two Rohingyas with two guns on the same day.

Over 50 clashes took place in last month in Rohingya camps. The law enforcers detained a total of 20 Rohingyas on charge of several crimes.

However, there is an allegation that a local group is involved to run conspiracy against the state using Rohingya people.

Following the issue, police detained 26 people including five foreigners from Kutupalan Rohingya camp for their suspected movements, Additional District Magistrate of Cox's Bazar Khaled Mahmud said. 

Khaled Mahmud said, "Police conducted a drive following an information that violating administrative direction, some intruders were moving in the Rohingya camp. Meanwhile, the law enforcers detained 26 people including five foreigners from the camp's D-4 block."

Cox's Bazar civil society president Abu Morshed Chowdhury said that there is a tendency in Rohingyas to commit crime. The administration should be alert over the issue otherwise crimes may increase further.
