Shakib unfit for ODIs against New Zealand

Sports Correspondent: Bangladesh Test Captain and ODI Vice Captain Shakib Al Hasan may be declared unfit for ODIs against New Zealand  because of a finger injury suffered during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) final.

Shakib was at bat for only five deliveries during Friday’s game when disaster struck.

An attempted pull shot on a short delivery by Thisara Perera in the 11th over struck the Dhaka Dynamites captain on the gloves and injured the ring finger of his left hand.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief physician, Dr Debashis Chowdhury, said, "An X-ray was done after the match and the results have confirmed a fracture on the left ring finger. The affected area will now have to be immobilised for around three weeks." An assessment can be done only after that.

A group of eight Bangladeshi players have already rached New Zealand, and the another group will fly tonight (February 9). Shakib was one of them who are set to fly tonight along with ODI captian Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Rubel Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin. But an abrupt injury ruled him out.

Banglaesh will play a three-match ODI series against New Zaland which will start from February 13 and they will lock horn against the same opponent in a three-match Test series as well. Shakib might return in Tests.
