Sports Desk: Australian cricket legend Shane Warne has been cleared by police over claims he assaulted a woman at a London nightclub.

Model Valerie Fox took to Twitter with accusations that the former spin king attacked her, posting photos of injuries she claims she sustained in an argument.

Warne was interviewed by police over the incident in Lou Lou's, Mayfair, on Friday night.

Ms Fox, 30, had taken to Twitter where she claimed a "vile creature" had attacked her.

“And no, I'm not lying. Just because you're famous doesn't mean you can hit women and get away with it.”

The model also posted an image of what appeared to be a police report of an assault.

However, in a statement to the media this morning Warne, 48, confirmed he co-operated with police who have not charged him with a crime.

“I was shocked to read the media stories circulating earlier today concerning a false allegation of assault,” Warne said in a statement.

“I have fully co-operated with the police, have assisted officers with their enquiries and they have now had the opportunity of seeing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

“As I strongly anticipated, I am now able to confirm that the Police have informed me that I have been cleared of the allegation and that no further action will be taken.

“This is now the end of the matter.”

Warne took more than 1000 wickets for his country across 145 Tests and 194 One-Day Internationals before retiring in 2007.
