Shipping dept chief engineer lands in jail

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Friday sent Dr. SM Nazmul Huq, chief engineer and surveyor of the Department of Shipping to jail in a case filed over corruption charges.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Subrata Ghosh Shuvo passed the order rejecting bail plea.

Earlier, Investigation officer of Anti Corruption Commissioner (ACC) Assistant director Abdul Wadud appealed before the court seeking detention of the accused till the investigation ends.

On Thursday afternoon, a team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) led by ACC director Nasim Anwar conducted a drive at a restaurant in Segunbagicha of the capital and arrested Nazmul Huq while taking bribe of Tk 5 lakh.

On July 18 last year, the ACC arrested Fakhrul Islam, former chief engineer and surveyor of the same department was caught red-handed with bribe.
