Shuvagata's five-for leads Walton fightback

Sport Desk: A five-wicket haul from Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury led Walton Central Zone to fight back against Islami Bank East Zone in the 4-day match of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), the country's franchise based first class cricket tournament.

 

The right-hand all-rounder took 5 wickets for 101 while Taiabur Parvez got 3 more for 50 to restrict East Zone to 367 in the day 2 at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra on Sunday.

 

However, a double century from opener Liton Kumar Das led East Zone to take a 143-run lead in the first innings.

 

 

This was Liton's maiden double ton in any form of cricket. He was in the crease for almost 6 hours and scored 219 runs off 241 balls hitting 26 fours and 4 sixes.

 

Besides, Mehadi Maruf and Abul Hasan added 41 and 40 runs respectively.

 

Trailing by 143 runs, defending champions Walton Central Zone started their second innings and finished the day at 65/1.

 

Shamsur Rahman and Rakibul Hasan both were unbeaten on 29 while Saif Hasan was out for only 4. They are still trailing by 78 runs with 9 wickets remaining in the second innings.

 

In the other match of the tournament, BCB North Zone are in batting against Prime Bank South Zone at Sylhet Divisional Stadium in Sylhet. They scored 474 for 7 wickets at the end of day 2.


Naeem Islam was unbeaten on 176 while Taijul Islam on 8.
