‘There will be level playing field in polls’

Staff Correspondent: Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said, “There will be level playing field in the the 11^th parliamentary elections slated for December 30.”

The election commissioner made the assertion while talking to newsmen at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Monday evening.

“I don’t think that there is any level playing field in the existing situation in the country. But I am optimistic that there must be level playing field before elections,” Mahbub Talukder said.

“What will be with the participation of all political parties if the election cannot held in free, fair and credible manner,” he said.

Allegations surfaced that opposition leaders are facing obstruction in electioneering. Is it possible to hold a free and fair election in this situation?

In reply to this query, Mahbub Talukder, “I am always an optimistic man. It is possible to ensure a fair polls if all the people involved in the election activities play their respective role.”
