Six policemen held with ransom money

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: Six members of Detective Branch of police (DB) were held on charge of kidnapping a businessman taking Tk 17 lakh ransom money in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday morning.

Major Nazim, In-charge of a relief centre at Sabrang in Teknaf confirmed the matter.

He said family members of businessman Abdul Gafur complained that miscreants kidnapped the trader showing identity of DB police and demanded ransom on Tuesday noon. Later, the kidnappers set him free in Marine Drive area early Wednesday after collecting the ransom.

Informed by the victim’s family, the army team halted a microbus at the army check-post in Lambari area of the Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive and detained six DB men with Tk17 lakh. Meanwhile, DB police SI Moniruzzaman managed to flee the scene.
