Special trains for Biswa Ijtema from Feb 15

Secretariat Correspondent:  Bangladesh Railway (BR) has taken initiatives to operate special trains on different routes of the country to facilitate the movement of Muslim devotees of the Biswa Ijtema from February 15.

The four-day Ijtema, the second largest Muslim congregation after hajj, will begin on February 15 on the bank of the River Turag in Tongi and end on February 18.

This year Munajat will be held in two phases on February 16 and February 18 respectively.

Bangladesh Railway will operate special trains for all the four days. Jumma special will ply on Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka route on February 15.

For the first phase Munajat on February 16, Munajat special-1, 2, 3 and 4 will be operated on Dhaka-Tongi route. Besides, two special trains will run Laksam-Tongi and Jamalpur-Tongi routes on February 17 alone.

For the second phase Munajat on February 18, eight special trains will run on Dhaka-Tongi route while one on Tongi-Laksam, one on Tongi-Akhaura, four on Tongi-Mymensigh and two on Tongi-Tangail routes.

However, all demu trains will remain shut from February 16 to 18 on the occasion of Ijtema.

According to the Railway Ministry, all Dhaka-bound intercity trains, mail express and local trains will stop for two minutes at Tongi station from February 12 to the Akheri Munajat on February 18.

On February 18, all intercity and mail express (up and down) will stop for two minutes at Tongi station.
