Sri Lanka trailed by 9 runs on Day 3

Sports Desk: Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis started the third day of the first Test against Bangladesh from where they had left off at stumps on Day 2.

The duo continued to build their partnership and went on to increase the total at a quick pace in the first session. Bangladesh bowlers failed to get an early breakthrough in the first session, giving the duo the time they needed to settle down on the crease at the start of the new day.

Kusal Mendis, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday on Friday went on to score his 4th century in the day, taking his side over 250 runs, while Dhananjaya de Silva also reached 150, slowly steering towards his maiden Test double hundred.

The duo continued to bat throughout the first session and increased Bangladesh’s woes. But neither of the two batsmen managed to score their maiden double hundreds. While de Silva departed for 173, Mendis departed for 196, missing out on double century by just 4 runs.

Roshen Silva scored his fifty after Lunch. He and Dinesh Chandimal took the total over 504/3 at stumps on Day 3, trail by 9 runs.
