Steps should be taken to remove sufferings of students

The results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations had been published few days ago. Now the successful students are planning to get admission scope in better universities. The guardians of the students also expect that their future generation will get the chance.

However, the number of seats in university is limited. So, the passed students have to face hard competition to get admission chance in better universities. And these admission seekers are forced to go university to university to join admission examination across the country.

Last minutes preparation for admission, nonstop journey by bus, launch and train, and passing night in unknown places became a part of these admission seekers during admission tests. Only the admission seekers know the reality of these movements. On the other hand, in this context, the female students face crisis most.

But, no effective step is seen yet. Couple of years ago discussion took place over comprehensive admission test for university entry test. Education ministry, university grand commission showed interest in this regard. But, the initiatives went in vain due to indifference of universities.

Generally a student took part in seven to eight university examinations to get the scope in public university as most of the students have no ability to study in private universities. As a result, after joining examinations in one university, the students try to move another university situated in another district. Even, they move division to division to join their admission tests.

It means, these admission seekers have to move across the country. Sometimes, they face trouble on the way of the journey. Facing rain, daylight and risk on the way, the students join the admission tests. The suffering of students increase when night falls on the way. Specially, female students face trouble most then. Overall, the cost of journey became a burden to the family of many students.

Discussion on comprehensive admission test issue is being taken place from last couple of years. Some educationists are writing over the issue mentioning the sufferings of the admission seekers. Even, the President Abdul Hamid showed interest in this regard. But, no decision is seen yet. It was learnt that major universities are not interested in the issue. So, the admission seekers have to visit university to university to get admission chance as usual.

Comprehensive admission test in medical colleges proved that it was a fruitful method in this regard. Medical colleges are taking their admission test in this way from last couple of years. As a result, the medical admission seekers do not face this type of trouble.  In comprehensive admission test, a student can join admission tests staying in his own district. Subsequently, a student will not face the loss of time, money.

Following the issue, the authority should take quick decision discussing with public universities. We hope that if the government takes effective steps then the universities will respond positively. We also expect the concerned authority will come forward to reduce the sufferings of students and guardians.
