'Steps taken by govt keep militancy under control'

Parliament Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the parliament today that militancy is almost under control of the incumbent government due to its sincerity and different steps.

The Prime Minister said this while replying to a question from Narayanganj-1 lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi (Bir Pratik) in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Based on the intelligence, law enforcers carried out a good number of successful anti-militancy operations in the country in recent time with the killings and arrests of many top leaders and activists of militant group. At the same time, a huge cache of arms and bullets were recovered from different militant hideouts during the operations. All militant hideouts were destroyed after the raids. Proactive policing is a brilliant example to restrain militancy in Bangladesh, Hasina told the parliament.

She said the image of the country has been upheld in the international arena due to the successful anti-militancy operations carried out by the government. Peace, discipline and stability are prevailing everywhere in the country.

The operations will continue to uproot the militancy from the country, she added.
