Stop airing local ads on foreign TV channels: Ministry

Secretariat Correspondent: Information ministry has directed the authorities concerned to stop airing commercials of local products on foreign channels which are running here via downlink.

The ministry has issued a notification in this regard.

Sub clause-13 under clause-19 of Cable TV Network Operation Act 2006 has totally imposed a ban on airing advertisements on foreign channels. But, reports surfaced that local advertisements are still being aired on several foreign channels which is contradictory to the law, the notification said.

However, the accused may face two years of imprisonment and the distribution license may be cancelled or suspended in case of breaching the law, it added.
