Strike halts printing all types of NCTB books

Staff Correspondent: The activities of printing, publishing and supply were stopped as textbook makers went on strike since Tuesday morning, creating an uncertainty of distributing text books among students on the eve of New Year.

Bangladesh Mudran Shilpa Samity (Printing Industries Association of Bangladesh) came up with the announcement of strike on Monday.

When asked Bangladesh Mudran Shilpa Samity president Tofayel Khan said, "NCTB are practicing various types of illegal deeds. They are imposing new conditions out of work order. We are observing the strike protesting these illegal works."

The strike will continue until the demands are met, he added.

However, Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) held an urgent meeting on Tuesday morning to resolve the crisis.

NCTB Chairman Prof Narayan Chandra Saha said, "Printers are seeking for some illegal demands which are not acceptable in line with the Public Procurement Rules (PPR). The discussions are going on over issue."

He said, "Distributing new books to the students on fixed time is the main challenge for us. We are discussing the issue regarding the situation. Hopes, the printers will withdraw their strikes and start their works."
