Students besiege Shahbagh for safer roads

Staff Correspondent:  Students of the Dhaka University have taken to the streets in Shahbagh area demanding proper investigation and justice over the road accident that killed a student yesterday.

The students under the banner Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad blocked the streets around 11.45am, halting the traffic movement in the area. They were chanting the slogans of “We Want Justice”.

They were demanding capital punishment of the driver responsible for student’s death yesterday, shutting down Jabal-e-Noor and Suprabhat buses, and foot over-bridges near all educational institutions.

Abrar, son of Brig General (retd) Arif Ahmed Chowdhury of Bashundhara area and a honours 1st year student of International Relations Department of the university, died as a ‘Suprovat Paribahan’ bus ran him over in front of the Bashundhara Gate at 7:30am on Tuesday.
