Students, police clash at Shahbagh

Staff Correspondent: Police chased the university students away from the roads while they were planning for demonstrations at Shahbagh intersection in the capital demanding safe roads.

The incident took place around 3:15pm on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said a chase and counter-chase between the police and students took place when the students were preparing for holding demonstrations at Shahbagh intersection. During this time, the protesting students threw brickbats targeting police. In retaliation, police lobbed tear shells towards the students. An eerie calm descended on the area.

Maruf Hossain Sardar, deputy commissioner of DMP (Ramna division), confirmed this to media.

Several students have been detained in this connection, he said.
