Staff Correspondent: Students, who are demonstrating across the country demanding safe roads, seized a private car of foreign nationals as they failed to show legal documents and license of the driver at the capital’s Shahbag area on Saturday noon.
Later, students handed over the private car to Shahbag Police Station.
It has been learnt that there had been two foreign citizens-- a male and a female-- in the private car. Of them, the male person was driving the car. Their identities and nationality could not be known immediately.
Witnesses and police source said, “Protesting students signaled the private car to halt at Shahbag intersection around 12:00pm. But the driver ran it recklessly neglecting the signal. Then, the students chased the car and seized it. Later, they handed over the car to police as they failed to show the license. The private car is currently at Shahbag Police Station."
Abul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station, confirmed the news.
He said, “Two foreign nationals are staying in the private car. They are afraid of getting down from car. Their nationalities could not be identified immediately. We were assuring them and requesting to come out.”
