Students take to streets for 7th day

Staff Correspondent: Students have taken to the streets for the seventh day in a row, chanting slogans and demanding justice for the deaths of two of their fellows.

The protesting students took positions in several key points of the capital. They were seen regulating traffic, checking documents of drivers as part of their ongoing agitation seeking safer roads.

On the other hand, the public transports stopped their service showing security reasons. As a result, the office goers face trouble. However, some of them expressed solidarity to the ongoing students' movement.

The students blocked different roads in Dhaka including Airport Road, Science Lab intersection, Mirpur 10, Airport Road and Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue. They were seen checking vehicles papers and license of drivers.

Assistant Commissioner Sahed Ahmed of Dhaka Traffic South Division (Shahbagh Zone) said, "The students took position in Shahbagh road area. They are checking papers of vehicles. There is no problem right now. But, the numbers of vehicles are few."

Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge Jamal Uddin Mir said students took position in Asad Gate area. Additional police forces were deployed to avert any untoward situations.

Earlier on July 29, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a 'Jabale Nur Paribahan' bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road which sparked protests among the students across the country to meet their 9-point demand.

Later, Mim's father filed a case with cantonment police station in this regard.
