Staff Correspondent: A fire that broke out at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital was brought under control at 8:20pm on Thursday, after a frantic effort of 16 firefighting units.
Brigadier General (rtd) Ali Ahmed Khan, Director General of Fire Service, confirmed the news.
He said, “Fire has been brought under control. Now fire service men and hospital employees are checking whether fire is found somewhere in the rooms.”
“A five-member probe-body has been formed over the incident,” he added.
He further said, “No casualties have yet been reported. All patients were evacuated from the hospital. Patients of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) were brought out firstly. Emergency patients were moved to other hospitals.”
The fire originated at a store room on the first floor of a new building of the hospital before a while of 6:00pm.
