Staff Correspondent: Omar Faruq Talukder, assistant personal secretary to the then railway minister Suranjit Sengupta, also a presidium member of Awami League, was sentenced to five years imprisonment in a graft case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge (in-charge) Ataur Rahman of Special Judge Court-4 passed the order on Sunday.
Omar Faruq Talukder was presnet on the dock during the delivery of the verdict. The court cancelled Faruk’s bail and sent him to jail.
The judge also fined him Tk 1.23 crore in default of which he will have to serve two years and six months more in jail.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Faruq on August 14, 2012 for acquiring illegal wealth of Tk 32 lakh.
