Suspected militant den cordoned off at Panthapath

Staff Correspondent: Law enforcers have cordoned off a building suspecting a militant hideout at Panthapath in the capital.

Law enforcement agencies including SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) unit took positions around the building since early Tuesday.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told this to the reporters after he paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 in the morning.

He said there might be materials for occurring sabotage in the building.

It has been learnt that Hotel Olio International situated in the building, just opposite of the Square Hospitals. However, it could not be known immediately how many militants and common people are staying in the building.

Yeasin Arafat, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalabagan Police Station, said militants are holing up at the fourth floor of the hotel.

Residential borders are being rescued first, he added.

Meanwhile, frequent sounds of gunfire were heard from the hotel around 9:45am. It might be sounds of gunfight between the law enforcers and the militants.

Police also rescued one as injured around 9:50am. However, it could not be known immediately whether he is militant or general border of the hotel.
