Suspected robber killed in Ashulia 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Savar: A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Tongabari area of Ashulia on outskirt of the capital early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shamim, hailed from Jessore.
Police said that the law enforcers arrested the alleged robber from Kalampur of Dhamrai on Sunday afternoon. Later, they conducted a drive to arrest members of his gang early in the morning. When the team reached the area, Shamim’s cohorts opened fire on police, forcing them to fireback that triggered the gunfight, leaving him bullet injured.
Later, the injured was sent to Savar Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead.
Dipak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station said, Shamim used to commit robbery on Dhaka-Aricha highway addressing him as DB police and was accused in several robbery cases filed with Dhamari Police Station.
