Suspected robber killed in Kasba ‘gunfight’

Brahmanbaria Correspondent: A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district’s Kasba upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Zahirul Islam alias Kala Zahir, son of Nasu Mia at Kamalpur village under Kayempur union. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive to arrest Zahirul Islam at Hazipur area of Benauti union. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, his cohorts opened fire at them, prompting police to retaliate that triggered a ‘gunfight’. At one stage, Zahirul was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his associates managed to flee.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Zahirul Islam was wanted in six cases.
