TCB starts selling essentials

Staff Correspondent: The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling essentials in open markets across the country from today morning in a bid to ensure smooth supply and keep the prices of the items stable during Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims.

Under the programme, the TCB is selling edible oil, sugar, red pulse, chick-pea and dates across the country including the capital.

The TCB has fixed per kilogram price of sugar at Taka 55, red lentil at Taka 55, chick-pea at Taka 70 and dates at Taka 120, while per liter Soyabean oil at Taka 85.

Each truck will sell 300-400 kilograms of sugar, of red lentil, of soyabean oil and of chick-pea and 30-50 kg dates every day.

The programme begins today and will continue up to the Eid-ul-Fitr.

The selling programme is being carried out through 2,784 dealers and 187 trucks across the country. Every dealer can get all the commodities in three installments and the people can buy a certain amount of commodity from the dealer.

In addition to this, the programme is also being operated from 10 retail selling centers across the country-- three in Dhaka and the rest seven selling centers are located at the divisional cities.

The truck sale is being operated at 32 spots in Dhaka, 10 spots in Chittagong, five spots in each divisional city and two spots in each district town.

32 different spots in the capital include secretariat gate, press club, Kaptan Bazar, Victoria Park, science lab intersection, new market-Nilkhet intersection, Shaymoli-Kalyanpur, Jigatola intersection, Khamarbari at Farmgate, Kalmilata Bazar, Rajanigandha Super Market at Kachukhet in Dhaka Cantonment, Agargaon Taltola and Election Commission Office, Rajlaxmi complex Uttara, Mirpur-1 Mazar Road, Shantinagar Bazar, Malibagh Bazar, Basabo Bazar, Ideal School Banasree, Bangladesh Bank Chattar, Mohakhali kitchen market, Shewrapara bazar, Dainik Bangla intersection, Shahjanpur bazar, Fakirapool bazar and Ideal zone, Mothijheel Bok chattar, Khilgaon Taltola bazar, Rampura bazar, Mirpur-10 gol chattar, Ashkona Haji camp Uttara, Mohammadpur townhall kitchen market, Dilkusha and Madartek Nandipara (in front of Krishi Bank).

The government has given Tk 375,99,75,769.00 crore as subsidy to the TCB in last five years from 2010-2011 to 2015-2016 fiscal years.
