‘Tarique’s videoconference not violation of code of conduct’

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed on Monday said the Commission has nothing to do with BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s involvement in taking interview of their party candidates through videoconferencing.

Tarique Rahman’s participation in taking interview of their party candidates through videoconferencing does not involve the violation of the electoral code of conduct, he also said.

The EC secretary said this while talking to reporters after a meeting at the Nirbachon Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon on Monday evening.

“As Tarique Rahman joined the BNP nomination board through videoconferencing from abroad, the electoral code of conduct is not applicable for him and the EC has nothing to do with it,” Helal Uddin Ahmed said.

Despite objection from the ruling Awami League, BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the nomination board through videoconferencing while interviewing its nomination seekers on Sunday.

Ruling Awami League on Sunday filed a written complaint with the EC in this regard.
