Tasvirul, Faruque sent to jail

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Monday sent two owners of FR Tower to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in connection with the case filed over the devastating fire that left 26 people dead on March 28.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order after Md Jalaluddin, inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court upon completion of the their seven-day remand.

Earlier on March 31, the court placed SMHI Faruque, the land owner of FR Tower in Banani, and Tasvirul Islam, one of the owners of the high-rise building, on a seven-day remand each in the case filed over the March 28 fire incident.

The two, along with Liakat Ali Khan alias Mukul, 57, chairman of Rupayan Group, the builder company and leaders of the building management committee, and some unidentified persons, were charged for the death of people due to negligence.

The case was filed on March 30 with Banani Police Station by Sub-Inspector Milton Dutt.

Detective police arrested SMHI Faruque and Tasvirul on the day after filing the case.

Mentionable, at least 26 people were killed and many others injured in the inferno that broke out in the high-rise building on March 28.
